Traveller holds the distinction of being the first science-fiction RPG . It was written by Marc Miller and was issued as a small format set of books similar to the original D&D (q.v.) . It did its job more than adequately and established Games Designers Workshop (GDW) as a leader in this field . The setting was comprehensive , based in Earths` future after it had come into contact with a huge galactic empire and covered areas 1000s of light years in size . This system has seen several revisions including Mega-Traveller - the empire in a state of rebellion Traveller : New Era - The aftermath of the rebellion & the rebuilding and Classic Traveller - A generic SF setting with sourcebooks to tailor your requirements . The system has just been reintroduced by Steve Jackson Games and included in its GURPs (Generic Universal Role-Playing ) line of games . | ||
