Paranoia (West End Games)

The SF game of dark humour. An excellent game - if you are a) drunk b) on drugs or c) off your head . This is recommended for playing as a one-off and is impossible to play (properly) as a campaign . This one needs some explanation , so here we go : the setting is several thousand years in the future on Earth. During the present day a world war broke out and the population went to live in bunkers controlled by computers . As time went on the various generations became dependant on the Computer and the outside was , for the most part forgotten about . The Computer - due to the lack of a suitable governing body became THE governing body . Unfortuantly its programming is very 1980s and everything is perceived as a Commie threat on top of that for the past few hundred years its begun to malfunction (not having a proper Software Engineer on hand to keep it running correctly). A few lucky Citizens are co-opted into the security teams organized by the computer - these are called Troubleshooters . They are given initially given a low security clearance of RED . At this clearance breathing is about the only legal thing they can do . In its infinite wisdom the computer then sends them on missions and jobs - usually to trackdown Commie Mutant traitors who display mutant powers , are members of secret societies or both . Unfortunately the PCs all fit into these categories and all the other PCs are aware of this . The object is to frame your colleagues before you cop for it . If played right it's the most hilarious game around , played wrong and it has to be the worst .The game is still available and on its 5th edition . Just reading the rules is a laugh in its self and recommended for that reason alone .
