GURPS
stands for Generic Universal Role Playing System . This is true . The basic rules cover in
a general fashion all types of RPGs from high fantasy to far future and everything in
between . Once you have the main rulebook you can then purchase "Settings" books
and mix & match these to what you want your game to be like - for example if you want
a Highish Tech setting with some occult overtones you might mix GURPS Cyberpunk , GURPS
Space & GURPS Horror altogether. The system is probably the best of this generalistic
type of game being designed around six sided dice and at its basic level , fairly
simplistic . "If you get this" , Steve Jackson claims ,"you never need to
buy another RPG" , which is partly true - just a shed load more of his source
material . I like this system but it is not for everybody Listed below are a few of the
options available for this system but this list is nowhere near complete... GURPS Space (SJG) A high science fiction sourcebook for the GURPS system . Packed full of new skills , advantages & disadvantages this is primarily aimed at generic space adventure . Recommended. GURPS Cyberpunk (SJG) A more down to earth and gritty SF sourcebook than Space . This deals with street level rather than galactic SF . Contains a whole host of new info for players & refs alike. GURPS Vampire The Masqurade (SJG) A GURPS version of the White Wolf RPG of the same name . Unfortuantly the agreement between the two firms fell apart resulting in just a handful of releases - Vampire Companion , Werewolf:The Apocolypse & Mage:The Ascension . The transition by the World of Darkness to GURPS is very smooth and , if anything better than its predecessor - there just wasn`t enough of it. GURPS Supers The Super hero supplement for GURPS . Well designed with good Advantages & Disadvantages . It is quite easy to build a hero to your liking or copy one from the DC or Marvel Universes. GURPS Illuminati (SJG) Whats this ? I hear you ask . Well , think global conspiracies and you`ve got it . This supplement was (loosly) based on a previous game by SJG & works very well as a system . GURPS Cthulhu Punk (SJG) A Cthulhu game for GURPs! What more needs to be said ! This is a smooth conglomeration of technology and tentacles . Very limited ,obviously , but good . As with all sourcebooks information is easily transferable and can be combined with any other setting - fantasy , arabian , etc. www.sjgames.com |
