The follow
up to Dungeons & Dragons and not as complicated as it sounds . Players got a wider
choice of options : Rangers , Paladins , Illusionists , Bards & Assassins were
introduced and now you could choose your racial background - elves did not have to be
fighter/magic users . You could play elves , half-elves , dwarves , halflings , half orcs
, gnomes or humans . The main rules were originally issued as several hard backed books : The Players Handbook (or PHB) The Dungeon Masters Guide (or DMG) Monster Manual (or MM) and Deities & Demigods The latter having to be removed from sale just after release due to the inclusion of non-TSR copyright material . This item was reissued with an identical cover with the offending material taken out . A plethora of other books were later released for the system including the Fiend Folio , Unearthed Arcana (which gave us the Cavalier & Barbarian PC Classes), Monster Manual II , Oriental Adventures and Manual of the Planes . The company re-issued the books as a 2nd edition after an overhaul and a 3rd edition is due out in late 2000 which by all accounts is going to be worth the wait (and is supposed to be the basis for TSRs new Star Wars RPG system). |
